DIVING IN XCALAK MANATEE ENCOUNTERS
In a corner of Mexico, very close to the Belize border, Xcalak awaits us. This quiet fishing village, whose old wooden houses are raised on stilts, preserves an ecosystem of rich biodiversity in its surrounding area.
Wetlands, lagoons and estuaries and mangroves alternate with tropical forests. But only divers will be fortunate enough to discover its greatest treasure: a coral garden in magnificent condition that the Xcalak Reef National Park protects.
In addition to a charming underwater landscape, made of walls, vaults and passageways, the main interest is the possibility of diving with a specimen of the large population of manatees, shy or playful depending on the mood of the day. And when there is no luck, it will still be a consolation to contemplate the majestic schools of tarpons.
